After Jesus’ Ascension, His disciples were bewildered and discouraged, not understanding what had happened to their Teacher and Master. Today we celebrate the event that is remembered as the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to them.  The power of the Holy Spirit turned those timid and confused followers into bold and powerful witnesses to Jesus Christ.  In the same way, the Spirit breathes new life into Christians every day, and brings them together as the Church of Jesus Christ.  In a sense, what we celebrate today is truly the birthday of the Church.
